Information & Resources
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
When does the season start? When does it end?
Assuming that we find the appropriate number of volunteers, practices will start in late-March, games will begin shortly after in late-March, early April and the season will conclude around Memorial Day.
What equipment do I need to buy and what equipment does the league provide?
Each player should have their own softball glove, cleats, protective facemask and heart guard (a.k.a. chest guard shirt or sternum shirt). The league will provide a limited number of batting helmets and softball bats to each team, although players are free to bring their own. Helmets must have cage on the front. The league will also provide each team with a set of catchers gear.
When are teams assigned?
There is no predetermined date as the construction of teams varies on several factors such as the number of required volunteers, volunteer certification and draft date availability, to name a few. The league will maintain communication with the families throughout the team construction process.
Why are there two different registration prices?
When signing up for Spring Rec softball, there is usually an early bird discount. A date will be set for discount to end. Any registrations after the date will be at a higher set price. Both prices will be public when registration is advertised.
How do I know if my child has the correct baseball bat and glove size?
For T-Ball, all bats must have the USA Baseball T-Ball Stamp. For Rookie through Majors Divisions, all bats must have the USA Softball or USSSA. For the safety of our players, there are absolutely no exceptions to this rule. Baseball or softball gloves can be used. Additional information can be found at:
Will there be practices? When?
Practices are organized by your team's respective Manager. Your team should have at least 1 or 2 preseason practices. During the season, practices will depend upon field availability, but you can expect another 1 or 2 practices throughout the season.
How many games are there per week? Per season?
You can expect your team to play about 2 games per week and between 10-15 games in total per season (depending on weather and our ability to make up the games).
Will there be any financial commitment on top of the registration fee & potential work bond? (i.e. mandated fundraiser)
There is no financial commitment beyond the registration fee and potential workbond requirement.
Something has happened and my child can no longer participate in the Spring Rec season. Can I request a refund?
Refunds are available until March 15th.However, the refund will be in the amount of the registration fee + workbond (if applicapble) less $50 for the uniform and additional supplies which have already been ordered. After March 15th, refunds will not be granted, unless extenuating circumstances.
I am having an issue using TeamSnap, who should I reach out to for help?
Before reaching out to the MTGSA, we ask that you please first refer to TeamSnap's Help Center (https://helpme.teamsnap.com/category/1208-getting-started). Their Help Center and Resource Library offer a lot of information to users regarding a wide variety of issues. If TeamSnap's website does not provide you with the answers that you are looking for, then please contact your Team's Manager. If the Team Manager is unable to help, then the Team Manager will work with the Division Director to solve the problem.
What days and times are the games?
Spring games will take place on any weekday at 6pm or Saturday mornings 9am or 9:30am. T-Ball is usually Friday night practices with Saturday games. Minors are usually 2 days per week, historically on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Majors are usually 2 days per week, historically Mondays and Wednesdays.
Can my child be placed on a team with their friend(s)?
We try to honor all requests. In order to guarantee a request, it is recommended that an adult from the family volunteer for a Manager or Assistant Coach position. Playing with friends is secondary to ensuring we have enough coaches spread out throughout the divisions. Always put requests in registration form.
What type of payments are accepted for registration?
We accept both credit/debit card and ACH payments. If you choose to pay via credit/debit card, a processing fee will be added to your transaction. If you do not fully complete the registration process, and receive a confirmation message, then your child will not be considered registered and will not be placed on a team. Please contact the MTGSA at MONROENJSOFTBALL.com or monroenjsoftball@gmail.com with any issues.
How will I be notified if a game is cancelled due to weather? At what time can I expect to receive notification?
The MTGSA tries its best to communicate all postponements at least one hour prior to game time. If, for some reason, our volunteers cannot make it down to check on the fields it may be closer to start of game. Most communications will be through the TEAMSNAP app. Have your alerts on.
What do I do if my child’s uniform doesn’t fit? Can I receive a different size?
The team jerseys are ordered as per the input provided during registration and cannot be exchanged, so it is better to order up a size. For the pants, everyone must supply their own black softball pants. Any brand they choose.
Injury Protocol & Accident Reports
All injuries at practice or games (that are serious enough for medical attention either at the field or later at a doctor's office or hospital) should be reported to the manager ASAP and that manager in turn needs to send email to the MTGSA Executive Board right away explaining what happened and detailing the injury as best as possible.

Primary Insurance – Family’s own health insurance
Secondary Insurance – Monroe Rec Dept. (they’ll pay $1000 max)
Tertiary Insurance – Insurance (Bolinger) the MTGSA provides families through ASA Softball

To use this the Accident Report Form (see links below) needs to be filled out by the manager and brought to the Rec Center ASAP – deliver to Jeanne Crawley/Ass’t Superintendent. The injured player's parent/guardian should also fill out the form and give a copy to Jeanne. Good detail should be included in the “What Occurred” section.
